Remo’s evocative ocean drum is designed to engage the senses and calm the mind. Tap, tilt, or gently shake the drum to mimic the soft ripple of gentle waves or the deep crash of ocean surf.Crafted with Remo’s patented Acousticon® shell, made from 100% recycled wood fibers, and topped with Mylar® resonant drumheads on both sides, this double-sided frame drum is as beautiful as it is durable. Inside the shell, fine metal beads glide freely across the heads, creating layered sounds with every movement. The larger the drum, the deeper and more expansive the sound.
The Remo Ocean Drum can be played by hand, with mallets, or used as a shaker – making it an incredibly versatile instrument. A creative and therapeutic tool, the ocean drum is ideal for sound healing, a backdrop to meditation, teaching, or adding atmospheric effects to music or performance.

What is an ocean drum?
Ocean drums are percussion instruments designed to mimic the sound of the sea. Invented over fifty years ago by French composer and ornithologist Olivier Messiaen for his orchestral piece Des canyons aux étoiles, the ocean drum was originally called a “geophone”. Over time, musicians and instrument makers adapted this design to better mimic the sounds of the sea, leading to the evolution of the ocean drum.How do I play my Remo Ocean Drum?
You can play the Ocean Drum by tilting it slowly from side to side to recreate the sound of gentle waves, or by shaking and tapping it to simulate stronger surf.
