Connect with the Earth’s energy
The Paiste 38″ Earth Gong is part of Paiste’s renowned Planet Gong Series.Precisely tuned to the fundamental note of as C#2/Cis at 68.05 Hz, with a 3rd octave 136.10 Hz and 4th octave 432.10 Hz. Based on the calculations of Hans Cousto, the frequency of the Paiste Earth Gong syncs with the orbital harmonies of Earth.
Made from high-quality nickel silver, this gong features a massive 38″ diameter, perfect for creating immensely deep resonant tones with a rich sustain. The Paiste 38″ Earth Gong is known for its mysterious sound colour, creating an unfathomable atmosphere.
Astrologically, Earth represents our connection to the physical world. The Earth Gong channels these qualities through its powerful vibrations that can be felt throughout the body.

From what they sound like and how to play them, to the significance of the frequency tuning, we’ve answered all your questions about Paiste Earth Gongs. What is the significance of Earth frequency tuning?
Earth frequency tuning (C#2, 136.10 Hz) is calculated from our planet’s rotational properties using Hans Cousto’s methods detailed in his book ‘The Cosmic Octave’. This specific frequency is believed to promote connection to Earth’s natural rhythms, making it particularly effective for sound therapy, sound baths and sound healing practices.Who is Hans Cousto?
A Swiss mathematician and musicologist, Hans Cousto is best known for the ‘The Cosmic Octave’ which details his discovery of the natural formula that links naturally occurring phenomena, such as the orbit of planets, weather patterns, colors, rhythms and tones. In this case, his formula transposes the frequency of the orbit of planet earth into an audible frequency (C#2, 136.10 Hz).What does the Paiste Earth Gong sound like?
The Paiste Earth Gong produces an immensely deep, primary tone with a rich sustain that can easily fill large spaces.Complemented by a rich array of overtones, the gong’s sound can be described as atmospheric, creating powerful waves of vibrations that wash powerfully through the body and promote a sense of exhilaration and connection between the player, audience and our ever-present mother Earth.
What is the Paiste Earth Gong used for?
Can be used for grounding meditation, sound healing sessions and therapeutic treatments. Musicians and sound practitioners can also use the Earth Gong to create peaceful soundscapes, facilitate deep relaxation experiences and help clients go on a sound journey which may evoke various thoughts and emotions held within the body and mind. How do I play my Paiste Earth Gong?
Paiste Earth Gongs can be played using soft mallets and rubber mallets of various sizes. Use a soft mallet by striking gently at different zones to produce varying tones and overtones.Light strikes near the edge produce bright sounds, while striking the centre creates deep tones that resonate seemingly endlessly. Use rubber mallets by dragging them slowly across the surface of the Gong to produce spacey or whale like sounds.
How do I care for my Paiste Earth Gong?
Store your Paiste Earth Gong in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and moisture.Use a soft cloth to clean off dust, and keep in a protective bag or cover with a soft material/sheet to keep off dust when not in use. Each Paiste Gong has a wax coating, which means you should not need to polish/rewax for a long time.
Try not to get fingerprints on the face of the gong, as this can introduce moisture or dirt to the wax. We recommend holding your gong by the cord or the rim. Alternatively, you could wear soft gloves to ensure your gong is kept free of fingerprints.
