Description

Our hand-crafted Kalimba B17 is made in Germany by the Hokema company. It’s made from solid American black cherry wood, treated and polished with natural oils and waxes. The 17 notes are precisely tuned to the scale of C-Major, making it ideal for improvisation and intuitive playing, but also playing a wide range of songs.

The Hokema B17 Kalimba produces a consistently clear sound that surpasses other 17-note kalimba. Ideal for playing more complex melodies and songs, it’s also a lovely instrument for beginners or those aspiring to advance their kalimba playing.

All the notes on the Hokema B17 Kalimba have a consistently clear sound, and they sustain for several seconds. Unlike many other 17-note kalimbas, which have muffled sounds on the top few tines, the B17 offers clear sounds on the top notes.

A contemporary version of Africa’s mbira, the Kalimba (pronounced “kuh-lim-buh”) is celebrated for its melodious sounds, ease of playing, and deep cultural and spiritual roots, and is technically known as a lamellophone.
